Calling all golf enthusiasts! I had the opportunity to explore golf for the first time in my life last month at the Mauna Kea Women’s Golf Day. Trust me; it’s not as easy as it looks. I thought I had this golf game down with all my yoga balancing and visual meditations, visualizing the ball going into the hole, did not work. The game was a lot of fun, and being out in the sun with amazing women was well worth every minute.
The day closed with lots of laughter, cocktails, and a delicious meal at the Number 3 restaurant that overlooks the beautiful Mauna Kea fairways.
The views are spectacular, and you will see me practicing to perfect my game.
Here are my three favorite golf courses on Big Island Hawaii:
1. Mauna Kea Golf Course
The featured picture is of me and my dear friend Robert Trent Jones Jr. His late dad Robert Jones designed the Mauna Kea Gold Course.
This 18-hole championship golf course has set the standard for Hawaii golf for generations. Created in 1964 by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and considered the benchmark for all other golf courses in Hawaii. Mauna Kea Golf Course was recently rated the #1 golf course on the Big Island and #12 overall by Golf Magazine.
Are you ready to roll out of bed onto your favorite fairways?
Well, it’s easy to become a homeowner at the Mauna Kea Resort.
Owners are invited to join the Club at Mauna Kea, which provides access to all resort and hotel amenities including beach, pool, fitness centers, spa, golf, and tennis.

Hapuna Golf Course is always a local favorite. Hapuna’s challenging play and environmental sensitivity make it one of Hawaii’s most unique golf courses.
The Arnold Palmer designed Hapuna Beach Golf Course, is a links-style course that begins at the 700 feet elevation and offers sweeping ocean views from almost every hole.
3. Hualalai Golf Course
Hualalai Golf Course at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature Hualalai Golf Course that has been crafted with extreme sensitivity to the land.
Hualalai is a place where owners feel a spirit of community that is uniquely Hualalai and experience a sense of “ohana” or family. It is also a place that has a respect for Hawaiian culture and traditions. This can be seen throughout the community in its architecture, exotic and indigenous birds, ancient Anchialine Ponds and pristine beaches, tide pools and coral reef.
